Last summer, as we sat in our garden sweating in 30 degree heat, we had a horrifying revelation; This was going to be the coolest summer for the rest of our lives. Climate change is already changing the world around us and every summer in the UK is only going to get hotter.
As individuals, its hard to know what we can do about this. We already recycled, we didn’t drive gas guzzlers and we believed that any other changes we made would be insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
But then we did the research.
The single biggest contributor to most Brits carbon footprint isn’t our day to day activities. It’s where our money goes. How our pensions are invested and who we buy our home energy from.
For example, do you know where your workplace pension is invested? UK pension schemes collectively invest approximately £112bn in fossil fuels annually.
If pension funds were a country, they’d be in the top 20 global emitters.
The average UK pension of £30,000 could save ~19 tonnes of CO₂e/year just by switching to a sustainable fund.
We realised that if everyone knew what their personal carbon footprint was, they could make small switches which can have a global impact.
And if lots of us do it, the companies we give our business to will take notice.
Everyone wants to be a hero!
People want to reduce their carbon footprint, but the tools are broken or out of reach.

This is why we decided the launch Net Zero Heroes. We wanted to make it easy to calculate your carbon footprint and reward the people who do . Our platform will help you to identify the switches you can make to reduce your carbon footprint and suggest ways you can offset what you cant reduce.
When you reach net zero, you will receive an official certificate and join our register of Net Zero Heroes!
Heroes don’t have to be perfect
Reaching net zero isn’t about changing your whole lifestyle. No one wants to give up going on holidays, their favourite meals or their car and to be a hero you don’t have to!
It’s not about changing everything, its about changing what you can, offsetting what you cant and recognising that the more of us who ask businesses to provide carbon neutral services and products the more they will listen.
